The proposed new village will sit in 350 acres of parkland and open space, in keeping with its setting against the backdrop of the Surrey Hills and its position adjacent to an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). The redevelopment of the Aerodrome will open up a previously private brownfield site for a whole range of outdoor recreational activities for residents of the new settlement, workers in the business district and the communities of the surrounding area as a whole. The landscape, in which the proposed new village would sit, has been designed to have a number of areas of distinct character including: - A country park with a lake, meadows, new woodland and sports fields - A copse and fields with reed beds and farmland - the old field pattern is to be restored where possible - A green corridor running alongside the Wey and Arun Canal with small copses, play spaces and a string of ponds - A meadow with room for events and sports as well as new mounding and tree planting to screen the main road - Preservation and expansion of Furtherfits Woodland, screening the new village from the North - Landscaping within the settlement to break up development and in keeping with the rural nature of the surrounding "Cranfold" villages Dunsfold Park will benefit from "intelligently designed" landscaping. With a Sustainable Drainage System (SuDS) and through a closed loop channelling system, the landscape will support water harvesting efforts as well as providing a water route for the Wey and Arun Canal to link into the site. |
