The Facts

A development of the scale of Dunfold Aerodrome will, of course, raise a number of questions and issues. Through ongoing research, studies and consultation, the Dunsfold Park professional team has explored rigorously, and will continue to consider, all possible effects and benefits of the proposed development.

- Dunsfold Aerodrome is a brownfield site. The 600 acres airfield is currently home to 500,000 sq ft of commercial space, a 2km main runway, two 1.4km cross runways, an 800m grass runway and 5.7km of perimeter roads .

- However, only some 40%, including the existing business area, of the total 600 acres site will actually be built on as part of the proposed new development.

- Almost 60% (350 acres) of the site (the whole of the 600 acres was previously closed to public access) will be opened up to the public for lakes, parkland and recreation areas.

- Nature, which has for so long been discouraged from the site due to dangers to aviation uses, can at last be encouraged back.

- A new settlement at Dunsfold Aerodrome would look to create a mixed-use community with the right live / work balance for modern living; the housing will help to balance the existing employment space which has the capacity for some 2000 jobs.

- It is the objective of Dunsfold Park Ltd to create Britain's most sustainable village

- We are aiming for zero carbon emissions, 100% water harvesting and recycling plus on-site waste management and energy generation. Dunsfold Park will be aiming to be as self contained as possible for energy, water and waste. (See Key Features - Sustainability)

- The scale of development proposed at Dunsfold Aerodrome will provide a huge opportunity to improve the housing, services and infrastructure for the surrounding area through section 106 contributions - a new direct link road to the A281 and much improved public transport serving the local villages are among the planned improvements.

- Aside from a major new transport strategy providing new high quality, low cost, sustainable and alternative public transport options, Dunsfold Park will be introducing significant car reduction measures to get cars off the roads. The ethos of Dunsfold Park is for people to live and work locally to reduce travel to work distances.(See Key Features - transport)

- Doing nothing with the Aerodrome is not an option for Dunsfold Park Ltd.

- Our professional team has considered many possible future options for the Aerodrome but it is the creation of a sustainable new community which we believe will most benefit the local area and provide a huge opportunity for the region as a whole.

- Dunsfold Park Limited also owns the adjoining Holdhurst Farm - Holdhurst Farm is not part of the re-development plan, nor is it intended to be so. The first areas on the farm are already in organic conversion and the intention is to develop this further over time.
